Short answer
Signing has serious legal significance; failing to read does not automatically invalidate a contract. Essential mistake, deception, coercion and other defects of consent differ. Language and explanations must be assessed through evidence.
Practical example
Someone signs in an unfamiliar language after receiving a different oral explanation. What was said, who translated and what was confirmed matter.
What to do
Obtain an understandable translation and independent explanation before signing. In a dispute, collect the original, translation, messages and participant details. Simply saying it was unread does not determine the outcome.
Legal basis
Georgian Civil Code — Articles 52, 72–79, 81–89. Checked on 28 October 2026. The outcome depends on the contract, facts and evidence.
