Short answer
Check not only the loan amount but the liability cap, duration, joint liability and interest coverage. Read the suretyship with the main agreement. Signing a blank amount is particularly risky.
Practical example
The borrower promises small instalments, but the suretyship includes future obligations. Establish what that wording may cover before signing.
What to do
Obtain all annexes and schedules. Address access to debt information and default notices. Consider whether you could repay instead of the debtor and what documents would support later recovery.
Legal basis
Georgian Civil Code — Articles 891, 892, 893, 898, 902, 905. Checked on 28 October 2026. The outcome depends on the contract, facts and evidence.
