Short answer

The Code lists the principal’s death as a ground terminating authority. An unexpired term alone does not preserve it. Post-death transactions and third-party positions require separate assessment.

Practical example

An agent plans a sale, but the principal dies before signing. Resolve inheritance and authorised representation instead of continuing under the old power.

What to do

Stop new acts relying on that authority and notify relevant participants. Preserve transaction records and received property. Heirs should regularise succession and representation; changing the signing date is not a solution.

Legal basis

Georgian Civil Code — Articles 108, 109, 110. Checked on 28 October 2026. The outcome depends on the contract, facts and evidence.
