Short answer

A loan may be agreed without interest. State this expressly to avoid later disputes. Interest-free status does not remove the duty to repay principal.

Practical example

A relative lends GEL 3,000 for six months without interest. The contract should distinguish the loan from a gift.

What to do

Record that it is interest-free, the amount, term and payment evidence. Agree lawful late-payment consequences separately. Special currency and security restrictions still apply even without interest.

Legal basis

Georgian Civil Code — Articles 623, 624, 625, 626. Checked on 28 October 2026. The outcome depends on the contract, facts and evidence.
