Short answer

The sale’s effects depend on the pledge type, registration, buyer’s position and statutory exceptions. Disposal should not be assumed to extinguish the creditor’s right.

Practical example

A buyer purchases a vehicle and later discovers a registered pledge. Ignoring a record available before purchase creates serious risk.

What to do

Check the relevant register, agreement and any creditor-consent requirement. Arrange payment and registration of release. Disclose fully to the buyer; hiding the asset from the creditor does not release the debt.

Legal basis

Georgian Civil Code — Articles 254–285. Checked on 28 October 2026. The outcome depends on the contract, facts and evidence.
