What can be certified
The phrase “notarized translation” is used too widely. In a specific procedure, a notary can certify the authenticity of the translator’s signature, the accuracy of the copy, or perform other notarial acts provided for by law. Therefore, you first need to find out the formal requirement of the institution where the document is being submitted.
First, check the delivery location
The bank, court, registry, migration authority and foreign institution may request different forms of document. The same translation is not necessarily suitable for all purposes.
What to check before transferring
- an original is required or a copy is acceptable;
- whether an apostille or legalization is required before translation;
- what language the document is translated into;
- who signs the translation and what signature the notary certifies;
- whether it is necessary to stitch the translation with the original or a copy;
- Does the spelling of names match the passport and other documents?
Why consistency is important
If you first perform a translation and then find out that the apostille must be on the original, the work often has to be repeated. The correct chain depends on the country of issue, the country of destination and the requirements of the receiving authority.
Is it possible to prepare remotely?
The draft document and the requirements of the filing location can be checked in advance. The original should be transferred only after the translation form, certification and the need for an apostille or legalization are clear.
